First unveiled at Saturday inDesign 2019, Discobolus is a suspended parametric luminaire created by the acclaimed light studio mcdermottbaxter, described by InDesign Magazine as “one of the most innovative and avant‑garde light studios on the world stage today.”
Conceived as a more compact sculptural evolution of the studio’s earlier Cloud series, Discobolus integrates embedded LED technology within a meticulously hand‑fabricated structure. Its design supports both fixed white illumination and fully programmable RGB effects, allowing the piece to change the mood with its environment.
Constructed from laser‑cut perforated aluminium in a matrix-style “egg crate” configuration, the work showcases the studio’s signature blend of digital precision and artisanal craftsmanship.
