The 121 Lobby and Café refurbishment project is located at 121 Marcus Clarke Street (121MCS) in the heart of Canberra’s CBD. The lighting design plays a central role in shaping an engaging, contemporary environment that strengthens the building’s identity and enhances the overall user experience.

The project introduces a new ground‑floor café, creating an inviting social hub that encourages connection, activity, and everyday amenity for tenants and visitors. This addition is complemented by a complete transformation of the foyer and lift lobby areas, establishing a more welcoming, dynamic, and intuitive arrival sequence.

An external wintergarden and the reconfiguration of the building’s external stairs further elevate the public interface, maximising amenity and improving the café’s street presence while enhancing the transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. The look and feel of the lobby, comprehensively refreshed, with polished steel and dark surfaces replaced by warm timbers, soft furnishings, diffuse lighting and contemporary light fittings and a more tactile material palette. The result is a comfortable, contemporary environment that supports both work and social interaction.
